Wayne’s World - April 2021

Welcome to Wayne’s World! This is a new monthly feature put together by Manor team member Wayne spotlighting music made by not-Americans. Music made in the states is incredibly well represented abroad due to the prominence of our language, so sometimes we have to work a little harder to diversify the music we listen to. Here you can expect to find 3 albums made in any period anywhere around the globe!

We hope y’all enjoy!

Gee Tee - “Gee Tee”

Gee Tee’s self-titled album is a treasure I found while on a four day road trip to Colorado this month. Perfect for blasting in the car on the interstate with your windows down, this garage-lofi punk band is sure to make your head shake. They’re based in Sydney, Australia and their 2018 album is full of angst, distorted vocals and all the noise you could hope for. Don't make the mistake of sleeping on their EPds as well! You can find them on Spotify or HERE on their bandcamp.

Ascending - “Instintiva Bellezza”

Ascending, a band from Italy but based in Berlin, released their most recent album in late 2020. Translating to “Instinctive Beauty”, this album is an Italian New-Wave superstar. The glamorous but dark vocals and upbeat rhythms make it perfectly danceable. Suited for a crowded and sweaty (post-covid) basement in Berlin, this is one of my favorite recent vinyl purchases. They still have some vinyl left! Be sure to check them out on Spotify or HERE to listen/buy their LP via bandcamp.

X-Ray Spex - “Germfree Adolescents”

X-Ray Spex is an elusive, iconic and wildly influential British punk band from the 70’s. Formed after Styrene went to an almost empty Sex Pistols show in 1976, she is generally considered the inspiration for modern feminist punk. Their music was a super interesting mix of jazz and early punk. Throughout this album we hear classic punk chords and riffs, but we also hear a lot of trumpet. Germfree Adolescents was released in 1978 and the band broke up shortly thereafter.
