R.I.Peter - “CRUIS”N & RISING SUN”
“It seems as 2020 rages on, I’ve become spiritually tied to the singles “Cruis’n / Rising Sun.” One of the first (and sadly last) shows I was able to attend this year was seeing R.I.Peter perform on a cold winter night at Colonial Club. Then when his tape was released, I reviewed both tracks this past Spring. And here we are, as the year comes to a close, I’m fortunate enough to review the video for both tracks. The first half, “Cruis’n,” gets to shine in all its green-screen glory. Psychedelic mountains and cityscapes flash with analog beauty while Pete gets to live out motorcycle dreams soaring through the sky. His accessories only multiply as the landscape behind him changes. Cigarettes, lipstick, and Lady Liberty all have cameos. Vibrant and surreal until the guitar solo fades and we move outside the barn to see the lush, green surroundings (and the crew of the video). Long tracking shots take us with Pete through the farmland, just him and his guitar as "Rising Sun" strums along. A compliment to the wild, yet contained first half, we get to see the world with him. Quiet and serene, we’re temporarily transported to wide-open spaces. That’s a welcome comfort as the days get shorter. And to bask in the warmth of good company.”
