CUEE - “AIN’T GOING BACK”
Prolific local hip-hop artist Cuee’s latest single “Ain’t Going Back” features an excellent collaboration with Joel Leoj, and brings an uplifting energy that everybody needs. Following his 2016 album The Evolution of Mixtape and 2018 album Shameless, “Ain’t Going Back” is an anthem of counting blessings and keeping the past in the past. Whatever your religious background, the opening prayer is entirely relatable: “You discover yourself to keep discovering yourself. You uncover yourself to reveal yourself. ‘Cuz there’s no one else. Amen Amen.” Cuee undoubtedly knows how to produce killer harmonic flows, rhyme schemes, and great storytelling. Their recent video release—filmed at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence, Kansas—is a dancey visual accompaniment to their themes of practicing faith, getting money, evolution of gratitude, and taking care of family.
