Paris Williams pulls double duty in the music video for tracks “Youth in Revolt” and “Paradise.” It isn’t just the two-for-one clips though; Williams works in front of and behind the camera as he directs himself in part one (both in real life and the video itself). “Youth in Revolt” is high energy kicking off after the static opener, a shifting aspect ratio & film quality giving us the behind the scenes of the video within the video. The chorus reiterates the meta-narrative (“If life’s a script/If life’s a movie, Then tell me truly who directed it/And which role do I fit?”) before a panning camera tosses us into part 2: “Paradise.” Mellow keys (and a backing band) accompany Williams as he addresses the camera directly. A more traditional approach before the audio begins to fade and the “set” we’ve been viewing flickers off. Energetic, innovative, and a lot of fun (extra points for the fog machine).
