THE WILD TYPE - “THANK YOU, STRANGER”

If this is in fact the last release from The Wild Type, there’s an appropriate hallowed hum resembling a funeral dirge that haunts the beginning of Thank You, Stranger. That is, until the beat kicks in on “Closet Anthem.” Then we’re off with crunchy guitar, stone-cold synth, and Rachel Mallin’s vocals punctuating every lyric with purpose. The rat-a-tat drums and jangly rhythm on the single “Brand New Face” give that summer vibe you’ll want to play the whole season.

Things slow down for the anthem “Easy” and the melancholic melodies of closer “Hallways.” Both are gorgeous, but the mournful tone sits heavy with the conclusion of Thank You, Stranger. If this is goodbye, then that gratitude of the title is reciprocated from all of us.
